Post course discussion

I've just got back into the office after 4 days off-site on a personal development course. The course was part of the centrally organised training we go on every so often as part of the graduate scheme. I have been on other development courses sponsored by the business area I was working in at the time, however they're always especially good fun when all the graduates get together for a few days; the welcome conference we had a year ago was particularly good!

The course was in Ambleside in the Lake District and was brilliant. We were able to take part in loads of activities which was great fun (although they weren't mandatory for those who didn't want to go abseiling etc), and on the flip side the 'classroom' work was tough but rewarding. It provided a really good opportunity to learn about myself and more to the point, how I could use that knowledge to my advantage in the workplace. It's easy to get so involved in your work sometimes that I am often surprised to find how useful it is to step out of the workplace and take stock of myself as well as getting some honest feedback on how I approach tasks, interact and lead others in a supportive environment.

Andy - Risk Analyst graduate scheme

My name is Andy and I started on the Risk Analyst graduate programme in 2007. I have been attached to Risk Operations in our Retail division for the last 18 months and have spent time working in Fraud Defence Analytics and then in Resource Optimisation for our Collections and Recoveries functions. Right now I am researching where I am going to do my next placement, which is interesting in itself as I have a lot of choice and really want to find the one which will suit my interests and needs best!
